#IMMOOC Give Opportunities

One of the battles educators face, especially more veteran ones, is figuring out how or even being interested in finding time to use the technology themselves.  But one of the things they don't understand is that our students already know how to use it.  We just have to give them the opportunity to use it in a safe, structured way so that when they are out using it independently, they will do so responsibility!

What types of lessons do you teach about digital citizenship and how to use technology correctly?

Math Online Practice?? Help!!!

Hello all my bloggy friends!  I have my Five for Friday post ready but just need to add pictures to it.  That will have to wait til tomorrow.  Sorry!
But I would like to ask my friends if you use any online programs for math practice in your classroom.  My county used a program called RiverDeep and last year they cancelled the subscription so the lower-grade teachers are stuck without much guidance on what other programs are available for us to use.
Here are some main features I/We really LOVED about RiverDeep and are desperate to find in a different (preferably free) program:
- individual student access
- student progress monitored by teacher
- student progress monitored and level adjusted based on mastery of skills
I (and many of my county collegeues) would LOVE to know if there is/are some additional options out there that we have not experienced yet.  I'd love for you to share in the comments but feel free to email me too!!

Happy weekend resting...stay tuned to my Five for Friday tomorrow! :)

Five for Friday Linky

I'm linking for the first time with Doodle Bugs Teaching for her Five for Friday!
fiveforfriday

Well, our school has been testing all week so our students have to stay in the classroom ( no resource classes) until lunch at 11:05.  We start our day at 8:00. I have loved spending this time with my kids and experimenting with different things.

1. We made these cute paintings by putting tape strips on white construction paper and then painting over it. Once it dried, I pulled the tape off and they looked like this!  I'm so pleased with how they turned out!!

2. I had a parent volunteer to come in and do a craft with the kids. She read them a few fish stories and then using baby oil, made these:

They turned out awesome too!!

3. I finished giving my students the PALS assessment (only in VA) and have recorded all of their scores in the cummulative folders.  I can check that off of my end of year to do list!

4. I have been assessing my students this week on their math skills.  They have practiced all of the first grade SOLs the whole year in math work stations, so I thought I would create a few assessments that would tell me what they learned. Click the picture below for a freebie from my TpT store. Please share your thoughts by commenting here or at TpT.

5.  And today we used the clickers to review some math concepts we have practiced this year.  Do you have clickers? Or have you ever used them?  My kids LOVE them and they are VERY easy to use!!

SMART Notebook Software

Our school is investing in SMART boards for all of the classrooms.  Our PTA has been purchasing them with fundraiser money.  I have not gotten one yet but am still using the SMART Notebook technology daily for my lunch graph and morning meeting.  I have a projector that I use to shine the software on my regular whiteboard.  My students have practiced with the software in the computer lab and are able to come to the computer to manipulate "things" for the morning meeting.

Lunch Graph - Thestudents put their magnets on the whiteboard under their choice.

Morning Meeting - The students go to the computer to use the pen, eraser, hightlighter, and select tools.

Are you using SMART Notebook?  What kinds of things are you using it for?
