VA Bloggers Appreciate Y-O-U!! - Blog Hop {FREEBIES}

Welcome to Virginia!

Virginia Bloggers Appreciate Y-O-U!!

Thanks to Andrea from Reading Towards the Stars for this super cute button!

A lovely group of Virginia bloggers would like to show our appreciation of you by extending a bit of southern hospitality.  You can follow along the blog hop to visit 20+ Virginia teacher blogs for terrific teaching tips and fun freebies to help get through the last couple of weeks before summer break.

I have created such a fun summer freebie for you!  This is a great end of the year center to keep your kiddos learning. But would also be fantastic for those of you that will teach summer school over the break.  I know my students love to work together to "figure things out."  And this station activity will let them do just that!  I have provided 5 sentences for you - each with 6 words.  When I introduce this activity, I teach my kinders to look for the word with the uppercase letter to know that goes first and then the word that has a period following it to go at the end.   Then they have to work together to read the additional words - most sight words - and put the sentence in order.

Once they have all 5 sentences in order (I like to do this at the pocket chart station but you could just use a desk area of the floor.), They will write down each sentence on the recording paper of your choice.  I provided 3 different variations depending on the needs of your students.

Our school uses the Wilson Fundations program in K, 1 and 2 so I try to always incorporate those handwriting lines on their recording papers where needed.  This activity is no different!!

So without further ado....go check it out!  It will only be free for this week's hop!  I do plan to post it as a paid product at the end of the week! Be sure to get it free while you can!!!

Let's Sequence Sentences - Summer Edition

While you are visiting each blogger, please take a moment to leave a comment on the blog post and some feedback in their store about their freebie.  We do appreciate you - but we also appreciate your feedback!  It helps drive our post and product ideas!

I hope you enjoy hopping around - and don't forget - VA Bloggers Appreciate You!!!

The next stop on the hop is Andrea from Reading Towards the Stars!

Five for Fraterday 5-16-14

So a day late...that's ok!  I'm linking up yo share what we did this week.

1.  This was the last week of my student teacher actually teaching. I have to start full time on Monday so I was very busy getting this awesome Community Helper unit together from Mrs. Lee's Kindergarten. This was a pack I got on sale during teacher appreciation week and I'm so glad I did. It's packed with awesome games for my kiddos!!

2. My kiddos did a great job sequencing this poem. It had very short lines but was 2 or 3 stanzas long. I was very impressed!

3. They have been learning about diagraphs and this pocket chart activity was great practice. Their handwriting has come so far too!!

4. My kids practiced retelling a story by writing the beginning, middle, and end during guided reading.

5. I discovered the coolest app for teaching number sense in math!  Here is a screen shot of me just playing with it. It's called Number Frames and it's awesome. Stay tuned to next week...I'm gonna use it with my kiddos for the first time.

And just a teaser...you'd better come back tomorrow.....

Now go see what everyone else is doing. Happy Saturday!

Monday Made It 5-5-14

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

I'm actually linking up for Monday Made It. I'm shocked!

But look what we made for Mother's Day. They turned out great and my kids love them.

The kids had such nice things to say about their moms!  I was so proud of them. Here I painted the background and took each kids picture with the whiteboard. The frame is large Popsicle sticks (tongue depressors) hot glued together with foam stickers on top. I hot glued the picture on the back of the sticks. They turned out GREAT!

Next, the kids painted these large washers - yes, from the hardware store.

And when strung with ribbon and 2 colorful pony beads, here is the final project.

Now head over to see what everyone else made too!

.
2.  My kiddos did some great learning this week during guided reading time.  This is a student from the local High School who is volunteering in my room.  She is helping these kiddos make sight words from their story.

3.  It's assessment time!  I feel like once May hits...all I'm doing is pulling kids to assess their growth.  We have a state test called PALS that we have to give, interims go home next week, our goal setting data is due soon, and running records have to be done before the end of the year.  I'm going to stay VERY busy!!  Here's my student teacher working with one child on the interim assessment.

4.  My kids did a great job at the pocket chart station this week!  I love these cards that my student teacher drew.  She is an amazing artist!  I've been encouraging her to look into getting a computer program so that she can make her graphics digital and sell on TpT!  My kids loved sorting these pictures while listening for diagraphs.

5.  And Friday we worked on making this really neat plant picture.  I think the photos say it all.  I'll have to remember to take a picture of the finished products hanging in the hallway on Monday!

Thanks for hanging around til the end!  Be sure to check on Teachers Notebook this weekend!  The sale ends on Monday!
Now head over to see what everyone else was up to this week!
