Weekly Lesson Plans

I have linked up with Mrs. Wills Kindergarten to share my lesson plans for this week. Check them out below.

Here is a look at my lesson plans for this week.

I have a lesson plan template that I have created in Word.  When I'm ready to plan for the next week, I just open it up and fill in the open spots with my plans for that week.  I will try to post a picture of the template too so you can see the difference between them.

I'm sorry for the wierd view.  I am VERY new to blogging.  I took this picture with my iPad of my lesson plan book.  If anyone knows of how to change a word document to a jpeg or png, I would welcome the help.

Groups of 3?

Our class just got one student bigger!! We had a new student start today. He is very sweet and the class really enjoyed getting to know him today. Now I have 21 students. During math stations, my students were in perfect double partner groups (with 20 kids). Today one of the groups did a great job including our newbie and it seemed to be fine. However, my stations are usually set up for partner work and not groups of 3.

Have you had this problem? What do you do?

SMART Notebook Software

Our school is investing in SMART boards for all of the classrooms.  Our PTA has been purchasing them with fundraiser money.  I have not gotten one yet but am still using the SMART Notebook technology daily for my lunch graph and morning meeting.  I have a projector that I use to shine the software on my regular whiteboard.  My students have practiced with the software in the computer lab and are able to come to the computer to manipulate "things" for the morning meeting.

Lunch Graph - Thestudents put their magnets on the whiteboard under their choice.

Morning Meeting - The students go to the computer to use the pen, eraser, hightlighter, and select tools.

Are you using SMART Notebook?  What kinds of things are you using it for?

Math Station Games

My students LOVE math stations!  Our school has incorporated math stations in kindergarten, first and second grades.  My first graders this year used the concept of math stations last year in kindergarten and I can tell that they have a better grasp of general math concepts then my students did 2 years ago when I taught 2nd grade.
The top 2 pictures here show 2 students working together on a math station where they are drawing number cards from 20-50, drawing the numbers using tens frames and then comparing the 2 numbers drawn.  You can see the blue number on the basket and the blue number on the desks help the students stay organized by knowing exactly where to go in the classroom for each station.

The bottom 2 pictures here show 2 other math stations.  The station on the bottom, left shows students practicing addition with a game called name trains.  I do use my students names in the beginning of the year, but have just recently changed it to celebrity names.  It adds some excitement as they visit this station but they can still practice addition with first and last names.  The station on the bottom, right shows students practice telling time to the hour and half hour using my clock game.  Students draw a card with the digital time and make the analog clock on their recording paper.

You can see all of these creations on my TpT website here:

Math Work Stations

These pictures show a little about how I organize my classroom for Math Work Stations. The pocket chart holds pictures of each student and their partner, numbers 1-12 and computer in purple and yellow. My students almost always visit 2 stations each day. The other picture shows how I organize the stations on my shelf for easy student access. I have read and reread Debbie Diller's book on MWS and have seen her in Richmond, VA at her math stations conference in 2012. I recommend this book to ALL teachers, any grade level. My principal has bought in to this philosophy of math teaching and has implemented the program in grades k, 1,2 and 3 and will add 4 and 5 over the next 2 years. Feel free to post a question or comment about stations if your trying it or if your interested. I'd love to hear from you!

Word walls

In any classroom, I try to include as many words as possible for my students to refer to when writing. The pictures show my sight word wall and my math word wall. The sight word wall has word cards on magnets which are placed on my whiteboard. The math word wall is stapled on a bulletin board covered with green paper. I found these great math cards on www.teacherspayteachers.com. I will look for the direct seller and post it later.
